The collective chairmen of the House committees on Oversight, Judiciary, and Ways and Means have referred President Joe Biden’s son and brother for criminal prosecution by the Department of Justice.
In a letter to Biden’s attorney general Merrick Garland, the chairmen said that they made the referrals as part of their investigation into a potential impeachment of the sitting president.
During that investigation into the “President’s role in and knowledge of his family’s international influence peddling schemes,” they called as witnesses both Biden’s brother James Biden and son Hunter Biden to testify under oath.
They additional interviewed multiple other witnesses “regarding President Biden’s knowledge of and involvement in his family’s business dealings.”
Those criminal charges stem from testimony given on February 28, 2024, and are for false statements and perjury. The chairmen say that the statements were made “in what appears to be a conscious effort to hinder the investigation’s focus on President Joe Biden.”
